Melville Library Closing @ Noon Today Due to Weather

Update: The Melville Library is officially closing at noon today due to weather conditions.

The North Reading Room may be open until as late as 5 PM depending on the weather and availability of staff. Call 631-632-7148 to check before coming in.

Citations Workshop on 2/16 Cancelled Due to Weather

Tonight's Citation Skills workshop has been cancelled due to the weather.

The workshop is also being offered online on Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 7 PM. If you would like to join that session, visit and sign in with your NetID and password, if you have one, or as a guest.

If you need help ASAP, the library offers one sheet handouts on APA and MLA styles.

The website for the Online Writing Lab at Prudue University offers comprehensive help on APA, MLA and Chicago. The information is easy to read and understand, and covers formatting a paper, in text citations, and the References or Works Cited list. They cover a wide variety of
scenarios and source types, including multiple authors, websites without a date, scholarly articles from a library database, blogs, television programs, etc.

One-on-one sessions can also be scheduled. Contact to arrange an individual session.

Census 2010 Workshop on 2/10 @ 12 PM

Is your native language English, Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese and Russian or one of 52 other languages? This workshop will cover what is collected as basic Census information and how this Census differs from all previous ones. Come find out:

  • How to find population data and other statistics for your research

  • How the Census and the American Community Survey differ from each other
  • How government education and other grant money is distributed according to Decennial (every 10 years) Census results?

  • How private is the information you provide? What if I'm not a citizen? Where do students fill out the Census?

  • Use research databases to find scholarly articles online

  • Explore the library’s collection of electronic books and reference material

  • Use Suffolk Web and WorldCat to find resources close to home
